Gro Mukta Holter
Gro Mukta Holter (b. 1976 / Dhaka, Bangladesh), is a versatile artist who works in painting, graphics, drawing, textiles and installations in a figurative expression. The themes of her work are often related to biology, identity, memory and memories.
She is educated visual artist with a major in textiles / art subjects at SHKS / Oslo College of Art in 2003. She has since been active as an artist and designer and lives and works in Oslo at Sagene in an old dress shop. She has about eight separate exhibitions a year, both at home and abroad and produce new works for each exhibition.
For Holter, a portrait is more than creating a likeness to the object to be portrayed; she views portraits as both a documentation of time and history. By portraying a person, time is frozen in a moment that can last forever. A portrait can be read as a memory of a person of a certain age and period of life and also as an attempt to remember a specific personality and recognizable, distinctive expression. Holter never gets tired of studying people and faces and looks at the anatomy of all faces as balanced forms, where every detail creates each unique personality. Memory...
