Jan Wessel (b. 1952 /Skanderborg, Denmark), has its own corner in Danish art. He mastered a modern version of pop art and its sense of decorative and graphic, while also digging deeper, for his stories are parallel both ambiguous and poetic. Numerous associations and references are embedded in Wessel's visual space - representing a tangling of life and art. In his artistic universe solemnity and drama meet, the imagination and the picturesque, playful and thoughtful. Wessel works with different forms of expression, ranging from painting, lightbox, collage, monotype, lithography, assembly and installation. At his many exhibitions at home and abroad, one will encounter pervasive elements - perhaps for some a flashback from a previous experience - forgotten, but still buried deep within the subconscious.
